How can I help?
One of my favorite TV series these days is New Amsterdam. The plot revolves around the journey of the new medical director of the oldest public hospital in the US. As you can imagine, he is expected to fix a system that is leaking from everywhere.
What struck me is the question he keeps asking “How can I help?”. Same question to his staff, to his patients, over and over again: “How can I help?”
He is not seeking to change the system by implementing a polished plan designed by external consultants. He is seeking to change the system by better serving people that are part of the system.
Improving the system by listening to and serving people in the system is essential to make change happen.
So how can I help?
